Seeking Architectural Designer

Remote Freelance Position / Currently Accepting Applications

Position Description

We invite recent graduates or entry-level architectural designers to apply for a four-month freelance position with potential opportunities for extension. All work will be remote and coordinated via Zoom and Slack, though if the selected candidate is local to New York City, they may be asked to join site visits.

Your role would be to assist with ongoing and upcoming spatial and exhibition projects. The ideal candidate would be comfortable working in a collaborative interdisciplinary environment and in a diverse range of media and scales. Our studio culture is ideal for close collaboration and provides an opportunity for leadership and initiative. We emphasize a context where good ideas and work are respected and implemented. The candidate should have a passion for improving the built environment by shaping spaces of belonging.

Skills

— Conceptual thinking to address project goals
— Awareness of contemporary programs and forms
— Drawing & modeling in Rhino
— Rendering expertise in Enscape, Cinema 4D/Octane, 3ds Max, or Blender
— Ability to build physical models
— Familiarity with Mac computers and Adobe software
— Great communication and collaboration ability
— Attention to detail

Responsibilities

— Prepare benchmarking precedents and concept presentations
— Sketch concepts by hand, in Rhino, and in Adobe programs
— Offer critique, new ideas, and research to advance design concepts
— Create 3D models, physical models, plans, elevations, and presentation drawings, with guidance from partners
— Revise and refine work based on client and studio feedback
— Survey sites through measurements and photography
— Develop specifications, review shop drawings, supervise installations with guidance from partners
— Prepare construction specifications and drawing sets, with guidance from partners

Studio Description

Isometric is a graphic design and architecture consultancy based in New York City. We work on branding, print, digital, and exhibition projects for major institutional clients including IKEA, National Black Theatre, the Museum of the City of New York, Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, Google, MIT, and AIA New York. In particular, the studio creates visual identities and physical spaces that advance an ethic of inclusion, equality, and progress, focusing on the voices of underrepresented or marginalized populations.
